But even today in many villages of Dantewada, this chutney is prepared by grinding in cobble stone. In this area, raw turmeric is also used along with the ingredients of this chutney, which increases the taste of this chapda chutney even more. Red colored chits are included in the special food of the tribals. Which is commonly known as In language Halbi, Chapda is called Chapda Chutney. In English it is called Red Ant and in Gondi dialect it is called Alaig. These red colored ants usually make their home in Sargi, Mango, Mahua, Kala Jamun trees. This is because The size of the leaves of these trees is large. A stick made of bamboo is used to make it fall down from the tree. The house made by the ants is called Guda which is quite hard but there is a possibility of disintegrating if it falls down. That's why it is caught in a vessel made of cloth or bamboo. If the ants get scattered, they can also bite you. But it is not at all harmful. The local residents here believe that Chapda is very beneficial for health, iron and calcium are found in abundance in these ants, along with protein. Malaria, Jaundice and other water-borne diseases can be prevented by its use, is the local belief.
