The fagun Madai, which is called the tribal cultural Kumbh Mela is the pride of the South Bastar. Fagun Madai is celebrated from Sashti to Chaudas (6th to 14th day) of the Hindi month Fagun Shukla. Fagun Madai, has been collectively conducted by the Maharaja of Bastar, tribal and non-tribals for centuries, is certainly one of the main and ancient cultural events of Bastar region. Held day and night in the temple premises of Mai Danteshwari Mata of Dantewada for 9 consecutive days. Mai Danteshwari invites deities from all the villages of entire Bastar division, apart from the neighboring villages of Odhisa as well. Around 1000 such deities, represented by their holy flags and palanquins reach Dantewada and bless the people during the festivity, which is a great experience to watch. All these deities are taken for regular Shobha Yatra in Dantewada town, with the holy music and pure aboriginal rituals. There will be plays and dances by the tribal people throughout the night during the Madai.
